2-Day Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary Uganda Photographic Safari
Safari Overview
Rhinos once roamed Uganda's savannahs in large numbers. Poached to local extinction by the 1980s, they are now returning — thanks to the remarkable conservation work of Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, 176 km north of Kampala. Today this protected sanctuary is the only place in Uganda where you can see wild white rhinos on foot, and the experience is uniquely intimate: no vehicle, no glass — just you and a ranger, approaching within metres of one of Africa's most iconic and endangered megafauna.

Wildlife & Photography Highlights
Photography Tips

Approach rhinos slowly — the rangers will position you for side-on and head-on profile shots. Use 200–400 mm for tight portraits and include the wide grassland landscape for context shots with a 70–200 mm. Overcast morning light is ideal — it eliminates harsh shadows on the rhino's armoured skin.
