Photography Tips

At UWEC use 100–400 mm for animals in enclosures — wire fences disappear at f/5.6+ with a long lens. At Ngamba Island the feeding platform puts chimps at eye level; 70–200 mm f/2.8 captures expressive portraits beautifully. Shoot chimps in shade rather than patchy light for even exposures.

Detailed Daily Itinerary

Day 1: UWEC & Transfer to Ngamba Island (Overnight on Ngamba Island)

Your driver will pick you up from your hotel or residence in Entebbe/Kampala in the morning.

 • Begin your day with a guided visit to the Uganda Wildlife Education Centre (UWEC) — formerly known as Entebbe Zoo. UWEC is more than a zoo — it’s a conservation and education hub that rescues and rehabilitates Uganda’s wildlife.

 • Walk through its naturalistic enclosures to see lions, leopards, rhinos, giraffes, elephants, chimpanzees, shoebills, and many other native species — the perfect introduction to Uganda’s incredible biodiversity.

 • In the afternoon, board a speedboat (≈45 min) across Lake Victoria to reach Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary, where over 50 orphaned chimps live in semi-natural forest.

 • Experience the evening chimpanzee feeding session, watching the chimps gather along the viewing platform as caregivers provide fruits and vegetables.

 • Dinner and overnight stay on Ngamba Island, surrounded by the sounds of nature.

 • Spot monitor lizards, otters, and lake birds as you explore the island’s ecosystem.

 • Spend late morning relaxing or learning more about the sanctuary’s conservation work.
