About This Tour
Located just 40–80 km east of Kampala, this corridor of natural wonders packs
incredible photographic diversity into a single weekend. Ssezibwa Falls holds
deep cultural significance to the Buganda people — its twin falls, sacred
shrines, and resident monkeys create a layered storytelling landscape.
Mabira Forest is Uganda's largest lowland tropical rainforest, home to over
300 bird species and rare forest primates. The zipline offers unique aerial
perspectives rarely available in African photography. Jinja, the adventure
capital of East Africa, caps the journey at the mythic source where the Nile
begins its 6,650 km journey to the Mediterranean.
Detailed Itinerary
1
Day 1 — Kampala to Ssezibwa Falls & Mabira Forest
07:00 AM — Kampala Departure
Pickup from your Kampala hotel. Head east along the Jinja highway through
lush countryside with early-morning light ideal for landscape photography.
Your first stop is Ssezibwa Falls, where twin cascades thunder
through a rocky gorge shrouded in forest. Local guides share the cultural
history of this sacred Buganda site. Photograph the falls from multiple
vantage points, capturing the power of the water with long exposures or
freezing the spray with fast shutter speeds.
Photography Notes — Ssezibwa
Best compositions at the base looking up at the falls. Bring a neutral
density filter for silky water effects. Red-tailed monkeys frequent the
surrounding forest canopy.
After Ssezibwa, continue to Mabira Forest for a canopy
zipline experience soaring above the ancient rainforest. This is a rare
opportunity for action and aerial photography above a pristine African forest.
A guided forest walk follows, searching for forest birds, butterflies, and
primates.
Mabira Forest Highlights
- 300+ bird species including
Nahan's Partridge
- Red-tailed &
Grey-cheeked
Mangabey monkeys
- Rare forest butterflies
&
insects
Overnight in Jinja or nearby lodge. Meals: Lunch & Dinner
included.
2
Day 2 — Source of the Nile, Jinja & Sunset Cruise
Morning — Jinja Town Exploration
Begin with a tour of Jinja's colonial-era architecture, vibrant markets, and
the iconic Nile Bridge — excellent for documentary street photography.
Visit the Source of the Nile — where Lake Victoria pours into
the world's longest river. Photograph the confluence, the historic Speke
Memorial, and local fishermen on traditional boats. Local fishermen and their
colorful vessels provide wonderful portrait and documentary opportunities.
Sunset Nile Cruise
Board a boat for a late-afternoon cruise on the upper Nile. Photograph
kingfishers, African Fish Eagles, herons, and the dramatic setting sun
painting the Nile gold. One of Uganda's most iconic photography moments.
Photo Tip — Golden Hour
The hour before sunset on the Nile creates extraordinary backlit silhouettes
of birds and fishermen. Use a telephoto to compress the burning horizon.
Wide angle captures the sweeping river curves beautifully.
End of Safari
Return to Kampala after the sunset cruise, arriving approximately 9:00 PM.
Two days, four landscapes, and a lifetime of photographs — the perfect
Ugandan photographic adventure escape.

Photography Tips
This tour offers three distinct lighting environments: misty waterfall spray at
Ssezibwa,
dappled forest light at Mabira, and the warm golden tones of the Nile at sunset.
Pack both a wide-angle and telephoto to capture all scenarios. The Mabira zipline
is best photographed by a companion on the ground with a wide lens looking up.
