Wildlife & Photography Highlights

Mountain Gorillas (Nyakagezi family) Golden Monkeys (endemic Virunga) Batwa Pygmy culture Virunga Volcanoes (Muhavura, Sabyinyo, Gahinga) Lake Bunyonyi (29 islands) Bamboo forest ecosystem Forest birds Cloud forest canopy

Photography Tips

Golden monkeys are more approachable than gorillas — their vibrant coats photograph well with a 200–400 mm in the bamboo's dappled light. For gorilla trekking, pre-set camera to ISO Auto (6400 ceiling), f/4, 1/250 s before entering forest. At Lake Bunyonyi shoot the terraced hillside reflections at sunrise from the canoe — use a polarizer for the best water clarity.
