1Day
1 — Kampala to Mgahinga via Lake Bunyonyi
07:00 AM — Departure
Long scenic drive through Uganda's southwestern highlands
(~8 hrs). Stop at the Equator for photos. Arrive at Lake Bunyonyi for sunset and
overnight.
Lake Bunyonyi's terraced island-dotted landscape is stunning at
dusk. Photograph from the lakeshore as the light fades over the hills.

2Day
2 — Golden Monkey Trekking & Batwa Cultural Experience
Golden Monkey Trek
Mgahinga is the only park in the world offering
habituation of golden monkeys. These vivid orange-gold primates are endemic to
the Virunga highlands and provide extraordinarily colourful portrait
opportunities in bamboo forest dappled light.
Afternoon: Batwa cultural village
experience. The Batwa are the original forest-dwelling people of the
Virunga mountains, displaced when the national park was created. Their cultural
program offers extraordinary documentary and portrait photography — traditional
fire-making, hunting demonstrations, forest herb knowledge, and dance.

3Day
3 — Mountain Gorilla Trek
06:00 AM — Trek Briefing
Early morning briefing before trekking into the Virunga
bamboo and Hagenia forest. The gorilla family typically rests at elevations of
2,500–4,000m on the volcanic slopes.
The 1-hour permitted viewing allows
intimate photography of one of the world's most endangered primates. Gorillas rest,
play, forage, and carry infants — creating endlessly powerful photographic
narratives. Guides position the group for optimal light and compositions.
Photo Tip — Gorilla Trek
Forest conditions require ISO 800–3200. Use f/2.8
for bokeh separation from bamboo backgrounds. A 70–200mm is ideal — wider shows
the forest context, telephoto isolates the gorilla's expressive face. Focus on
the eyes.
Afternoon: Rest and landscape photography around Mgahinga.

4Day
4 — Lake Bunyonyi Canoe & Return to Kampala
Morning canoe trip on Lake Bunyonyi —
Africa's deepest lake. The 29 islands, terraced hillsides, and bird-filled shoreline
create one of Uganda's most painterly photographic environments. Return drive to
Kampala, arriving evening.

aperture, and patience are key. The golden monkey's amber coat glows beautifully in
filtered forest light. For Batwa portraits, ask permission and use a 50–85mm for
natural, respectful documentary-style compositions.
