The current Omukama of Toro is King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV.
King Oyo took over the throne in 1995 at the age of three making him the youngest King in the world after the death of his father Omukama Patrick David Matthew Kaboyo Rwamuhokya.
Tooro was founded as a breakaway kingdom from Bunyoro Kitara in 1822 when Kaboyo Olimi I, the eldest son of the Omukama of Bunyoro-Kitara, Nyamutukura Kyebambe III, rebelled against his father and annexed the southern part of his father’s kingdom.
Omukama (King) Kabalega absorbed back Tooro by force into the Bunyoro-Kitara from 1880 – 1891. Tooro regained its independence when Rukirabasaija Daudi Kasagama Kyebambe III ascended the throne and ruled until 1928 as part of a deal with the Imperial British East Africa Company (IBEAC).
Kyebambe converted the kingdom to Christianity. He was succeeded by his son Rukirabasaija Sir George David Matthew Kamurasi Rukidi III who reigned until the kingdoms were abolished by President Milton Obote.
Rukidi was succeeded by his fourth son Olimi III who was restored to the throne in 1993 after Kingdoms were restored. Omukama Olimi died two years later in 1995 and was succeeded by his infant son King Oyo, the present day king.
