Jinja hosts the source of the Nile, the longest river in the world which was the mother of human civilization in ancient Egypt. From Jinja, the Nile spans Uganda, South Sudan, Sudan and Egypt on its 6,650km journey to the Mediterranean Sea.
Using a boat, one can reach to the point where the river begins its journey. John Speke was the first European to reach the source of the Nile in 1858. The site where Speke stood and first spotted the source has been turned into a park for recreational activities.
